Job Description:

 

A Plant Operator is responsible for, in accordance with the GGF Gonzales (GGFG) operations/procedures manual, ensuring that the GGFG biodiesel plant facility operates in an efficient and safe manner.  This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and will operate under his or her guidance and direction. A Plant Operator is also responsible for ensuring all biodiesel is produced under ASTM specifications and complies with all BQ-9000 certification requirements through a series of testing and sampling throughout the biodiesel production process, as outlined in the GGFG operations/procedures manual.

 

Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Ensure production schedules and timelines are kept.
  • Keep detailed daily records of the amount of feedstock used and the amount of biodiesel produced, and communicate the information to the Plant Manager on a daily basis.
  • Learn and understand basic lab procedures including testing for Methanol, Titrates, and Free Fatty Acids.
  • Supervise and/or perform basic maintenance on the production process as directed by the Plant Manager.
  • Supervise and/or perform other miscellaneous tasks as directed by the Plant Manager, such as: cleaning, painting, minor equipment repairs, and indoor and outdoor building maintenance.
  • Maintaining efficient output and production levels.
  • Follow the direction and guidance given through the Plant Manager.
  • Adequately represent GGFG within the city of Gonzales.
  • Coordinate with the Plant Manger in the procurement of feedstock and distribution of final biodiesel product.
  • Responsible for the entire plant operations and proper functioning of the equipment for their individual shift.
  • Assist in the creation and compliance of safety policies and procedures.
  • Help ensure and maintain the security of the production facility.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Experience in multiple facilities operations.
  • Experience in the application of quality assurance programs in the manufacturing industry.
  • Basic knowledge of process equipment.
  • Working mechanical knowledge with the ability to recognize signs of operation failure and ability to effectively solve the problem.
  • Desire to work in a quality controlled environment.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to learn advanced equipment operating skills such as operating lab equipment, automated computer software, and forklifts or crane systems.

The physical demands and work environment described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of a Plant Operator position. A Plant Operator works indoors and outdoors around equipment and machinery, walking on occasionally slippery surfaces with occasional exposure to excessive noise, fumes, and extremes in temperature. A Plant Operator frequently uses special visual and auditory protective equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the Lead Plant Operator is required to walk, stand, sit and bend, squat and climb (ladders), kneel and twist, talk and hear. The Plant Operator uses their hands to perform simple and power grasping and fine manipulation to push and pull.

Must be able to work 8 - 12 hour shifts; with the possibility of rotating schedules between day and night shifts.
